How We Rate Hunting Gear

At HuntingSage, the top priority is to give readers the information they are looking for. We strive to give honest assessments of any products reviewed or recommended on this site.

For every product on the site, we try to follow an outline of key factors we are looking for before we recommend something.

Factors We Consider When Rating Hunting Gear

  • Does the Product Deliver?
  • Overall Quality
  • Longevity
  • Value
  • Feedback from other Users

Does the Product Deliver?

Everything you buy comes with promises.

But sadly, many products do not live up to these promises.

If a company says their product should do X, we want to make sure it does X before recommending it to readers.

Overall Quality

We look at everything including the packaging, overall build quality, user experience, you name it.

Does the product “feel” cheap?

Is it what we expect when spending a certain amount of money?

We hate cheap, poorly made junk as much as you do. That’s why we place a lot of emphasis on the general quality of the product.

Longevity

You probably know hunters using knives, rifles etc. that they purchased 10, 20, even 30 years ago. This is ideally what we want in any major hunting gear purchase.

Having to upgrade to the latest, greatest gadget is not what we are looking for. We want you to be able to build a collection of hunting gear that you can depend on for years to come.

Value

Most of us hunters don’t have unlimited budgets. We all have other expenses and obligations and life and for the vast majority, hunting is a hobby.

So, we need to spend our dollars where they count. Spending your entire hunting budget on something that isn’t going to improve your hunting experience just doesn’t make sense.

That is why we always keep our reader in mind. We ask, “For the average hunter, is it worth spending $X? Are they going to get enough value out of this purchase?”

Feedback from other Users

We always take into consideration the feedback of other users. Just because we prefer a product doesn’t mean others will feel the same way. In order to provide objective information, we always factor in the reviews and feedback of others in addition to our own experience.

Because real feedback from real users is the only way we can get a truly unbiased assessment of a product, we encourage you to leave reviews for everything you purchase!

Why You Can Trust Us

The reviews on this site are done by people who actually hunt and use the products being reviewed. We have years of experience hunting a variety of game under all sorts of conditions. The gear we talk about has been used under real hunting conditions.
